Apple Inc. (AAPL) will start shipping its widely anticipated device Apple Watch in April, confirmed Chief Executive Tim Cook during an earnings call on Tuesday.
"Development for Apple Watch is right on schedule," Cook said on a conference call. "We're going to be thrilled to start shipping it because we have a lot of customers wanting to get one."
The Cupertino, California-based tech giant, which touts the Apple Watch as the most personal device it has released yet, had initially unveiled the device in September 2014 along with the launch of iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.
Apple had then indicated a vague shipping date of "early 2015." However, yesterday Apple disclosed the shipping would start in April, instead of March as early rumors had suggested.
Meanwhile, Apple has not disclosed any further pricing details of Apple Watch. In September, the company had indicated pricing to start at $349. Apple Watch will be available in three collections, Apple Watch in stainless steel, Apple Watch Sport in silver or space gray aluminum, and luxury Apple Watch Edition in 18 carat gold.
In November, Apple had released WatchKit, the software kit for developers to to enable create apps for the Apple Watch.
Last week, tech blog 9to5mac had reported about the poor battery performance of Apple Watch. According to the report, battery of Apple Watch would only last between 2.5 to 4 hours on very active use.
Yesterday, Apple reported a blockbuster earnings result for its first quarter, after the company sold a record 74.5 million iPhones in the holiday quarter.
AAPL is currently trading at $117.86, up $8.72 or 7.99%, on the Nasdaq.
