Malaysia's consumer price inflation eased at a faster-than-expected pace in February, due to cheaper fuel prices, figures from the Department of Statistics showed Friday.
The consumer price index rose only 0.1 percent year-over-year in February, slower than January's 1.0 percent climb. Economists had forecast a 0.2 percent increase for the month.
Prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages grew 2.7 percent annually in February and utility costs increased by 2.4 percent.
At the same time, transport costs plunged 11.8 percent and clothing and footwear prices dipped by 0.6 percent
On a monthly basis, consumer prices dropped 0.6 percent in February.
