German Factory Orders Recover In March

German factory orders recovered in March after falling for two straight months, data from Destatis showed Thursday.

Factory orders grew 0.9 percent month-on-month in March, offsetting February's 0.9 percent fall. But the growth rate was weaker than a 1.5 percent rise forecast by economists.

Domestic orders increased 4.3 percent, while foreign orders declined 1.6 percent.

New orders from the euro area increased 2.5 percent from the prior month. On the other hand, orders from other countries were down 4 percent.

The manufacturers of intermediate- and capital goods posted increases in orders of 0.9 percent and 1.3 percent in March. For consumer goods, an decrease in orders of 2.2 percent was registered.
