French industrial production dropped unexpectedly in March, figures from the statistical office Insee showed Thursday.
Industrial production dropped 0.3 percent month-on-month in March, defying economists' expectations for a 0.1 percent slight increase. In February, production had risen a revised 0.5 percent.
Meanwhile, manufacturing output grew 0.3 percent monthly in March, while it was expected to fall by 0.3 percent. This was followed by a revised 0.5 percent climb in February.
Construction output increased 0.9 percent in March from the previous year, after a 2.2 percent fall registered in February.
In the first quarter of this year, industrial and manufacturing production expanded 1.4 percent and 0.8 percent, respectively from the previous three month-month period.
