Japan March Industrial Output Revised Down To Steeper Decline

Japan's industrial production declined more than initially estimated in March, final data released by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) showed Monday.

The seasonally adjusted industrial production dropped 0.8 percent month-on-month in March, a steeper drop than the 0.3 percent fall estimated initially. Industrial production decreased an unadjusted 1.7 percent annually in March compared to a 1.2 percent decline expected initially.

Shipments dropped 0.6 percent on month versus preliminary estimate of a 0.3 percent fall. Annually, shipments decreased 2.3 percent, steeper than the 1.9 percent drop predicted originally.

The inventory ratio rose 0.9 percent on month and was 6.2 percent higher year-over-year. Capacity utilization rate declined 1.2 percent points month-over-month to 99.8 percent. Compared to the previous year, it fell 2.7 percent points.
