U.K. June Industrial Output Falls Unexpectedly

U.K. industrial production declined unexpectedly in June, while manufacturing output recovered from the prior month, data from the Office for National Statistics revealed Thursday.

Industrial output dropped 0.4 percent in June from May, when it was up 0.3 percent. This was the first fall in five months. Production was forecast to rise marginally by 0.1 percent.

Meanwhile, manufacturing output grew 0.2 percent, reversing a 0.6 percent drop in May. Economists had forecast 0.1 percent rise.

On a yearly basis, industrial production growth eased to 1.5 percent from 1.9 percent. It was expected to improve to 2.2 percent.

At the same time, growth in manufacturing halved to 0.5 percent from 1 percent. Manufacturing was seen expanding 0.4 percent.
