Eurozone investor confidence unexpectedly weakened in August, thanks to the uncertainty regarding the Chinese stock market outlook and the dampened expectations for the economy in Asia excluding Japan, survey results from Sentix showed Monday.
The investor confidence index dropped to 18.4 from 18.5 in July, the think tank said. Economists had expected a higher score of 20.
The current conditions index of the survey rose to 15.3 from 14.8 in July. The latest score was the highest since July 2011.
However, the expectations index dropped for a fourth straight month in August. The index reading fell to 21.5 from 22.3 in the previous month. It was the lowest since January.
The expectations index for the Asian region excluding Japan shed 5.75 points to reach its lowest since September 2012, the survey showed.
