Total credit card spending in New Zealand was up 1.1 percent on month in July, Statistics New Zealand said on Tuesday.
That topped expectations for an increase of 0.8 percent and up from the upwardly revised 0.7 percent gain in June (originally 0.6 percent).
Retail credit card spending added 0.4 percent - shy of forecasts for an increase of 0.5 percent, which would have been unchanged from the previous month.
Credit card spending in the core retail industries was up 0.5 percent.
