The total number of home loans issued in Australia added a seasonally adjusted 0.3 percent in July, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said on Wednesday - coming in at 52,696.
That missed forecasts for an increase of 0.8 percent following the 4.4 percent jump in June.
The total value of loans advanced 2.2 percent to A$19.226 billion, slowing from the 5.5 percent spike in the previous month.
Investment lending gained 0.5 percent to A$13.587 billion after dipping 0.7 percent a month earlier.
The number of loans for the construction of dwellings fell 0.9 percent, while the number of loans for the purchase of new dwellings gained 2.0 percent.
