Taiwan's industrial output declined for the fourth straight month in August at a faster-than-expected pace, preliminary figures from the Ministry of Economic Affairs showed Wednesday.
Industrial production dipped 5.46 percent year-over-year in August, exceeding economists' expectations for a 2.9 percent decrease.
In July, production had fallen 2.66 percent, which was revised down from a 2.99 percent drop reported earlier.
Manufacturing output fell 5.52 percent annually in August, faster than the 2.67 percent decline in the prior month. Production in the mining and quarrying sector slid 5.37 percent, following a 7.86 percent fall in July.
At the same time, building construction sector logged an increase of 2.5 percent in August, but much slower than the 27.09 percent jump in the preceding month.
On a monthly basis, industrial production dropped a seasonally adjusted 1.66 percent in August after a 0.68 percent decrease in the prior month.
