Eurozone Construction Output Falls In August

Eurozone construction output decreased in August after rebounding in the previous month, data from Eurostat showed Monday.

Construction output fell a seasonally adjusted 0.2 percent month-over-month in August, reversing a 0.4 percent increase in July, which was revised up from a 0.1 percent rise.

Production in the building sector dropped 0.2 percent monthly in August and that for civil engineering sector went down by 0.3 percent.

On a yearly basis, construction output dipped 6.0 percent in August, much faster than the 0.3 percent decrease in the prior month, revised from a 1.8 percent gain. It was the third successive monthly fall.

In the EU28, construction production slid 5.0 percent annually in August and declined 1.2 percent from the preceding month.

Among member states, the largest monthly decreases in production in construction were recorded in Slovakia, the United Kingdom and Slovenia, while the highest increases were observed in Portugal, Poland and France.
