General Motors (GM) is recalling about 1.4 million older model cars, citing fire hazard from oil leakage, according to media reports on Tuesday. The recall includes 1.28 million sedans and coupes in the U.S.
The automaker reportedly said that drops of oil may be deposited on the hot exhaust manifold through hard braking, which can cause engine compartment fires.
The issue affects several coupes and sedans, with model years ranging from 1997 to 2004. This includes 1 million cars that were fixed for the same issue in two recalls in 2007 and 2009.
Customers are said to have reported at least 19 minor injuries due to the oil leakage in the six years following the last recall.
The affected models are 1997-2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, 2000-2004 Chevrolet Impala, 1998-1999 Chevrolet Lumina and 1998-2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, 1998-1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue and 1997-2004 Buick Regal.
GM is trading at $34.98, down $0.69 or 1.93 percent on a volume of 3.02 million shares.
