Century's worst rain that hit the South Indian city of Chennai and its neighboring districts has claimed lives of 188 people till date. Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu, have been witnessing extraordinary floods since October, that disrupted normal life for weeks.
Thousands of people have been evacuated and all transportation means have been disrupted. There is no power and connectivity in many part of the city.
Hundreds of passengers are stranded at the airport and railway stations. Flood water has marooned the suburbs with strong spells of rain for the last few days. Main streets have been waterlogged and flood water has entered several building.
A depression in the Bay of Bengal and the resultant cyclonic circulation have resulted in the incessant rain and flood. Heavy showers are expected in the next 48 hours.
Chennai's popular English news paper "The Hindu" was not printed for the first time on Tuesday in its history of 137 years.
Those who are staying in the comparatively unaffected areas are opening their doors for flood-affected people and offering food and clothes.
