Switzerland's producer and import prices continued its downward trend in December, the Federal Statistical Office showed Tuesday.
Producer and import prices declined 5.5 percent year-on-year, the same rate of decline as seen in November. Producer and import prices have been falling since October 2013.
Economists had forecast producer and import prices to drop 5.4 percent in December.
On a monthly basis, the index slid 0.4 percent reversing November's 0.4 percent increase. This was the first fall in three months. Prices were expected to drop 0.2 percent in December.
Producer prices decreased 0.3 percent on a monthly basis, taking the annual decline to 3.6 percent. At the same time, imports prices fell 0.8 percent from November and sharply by 9.7 percent from last year.
In 2015, overall producer and import prices declined 5.4 percent after falling 1.1 percent in 2014.
