White House Director Of Legislative Affairs Stepping Down

Katie Beirne Fallon is stepping down as President Barack Obama's Director of Legislative Affairs, the White House announced on Friday.

In a statement, Obama described Fallon as instrumental in reaching bipartisan budget agreements, protecting the nuclear deal with Iran, and ensuring long-stalled Ex-Im and IMF reforms were enacted.

"Republicans and Democrats in Congress have their differences - but when it comes to Katie, they're united in their admiration and respect," Obama said.

Fallon will be succeeded by Depute Legislative Affairs Director Amy Rosenbaum, who previously worked for House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

Obama said, "There's nobody better prepared to step into this role than Amy Rosenbaum, and I'm very pleased she's agreed to serve as my next head of legislative affairs."

The shift is seen as another sign Obama does not expect many legislative accomplishments over the next year due to his lame-duck status and the upcoming elections.

Final approval of the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal and criminal sentencing reform are seen as two of Obama's few legislative priorities this year.
