Germany's consumer price inflation accelerated to an eight-month high in January as initially estimated, latest data from Destatis showed Friday.
The consumer price index rose 0.5 percent year-over-year in January, in line with flash data, faster than the 0.3 percent increase in December.
The latest inflation figure was the highest since May last year, when it was 0.7 percent.
Prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages grew 0.8 percent annually in January and that for clothing footwear went up by 0.5 percent. Meanwhile, utility costs registered a drop of 0.5 percent.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.8 percent in January, which was worse than the 0.1 percent slight decrease in the preceding month. The figure was also matched with preliminary report.
In a separate report, the statistical office announced that wholesale prices slipped at a stable pace of 1.0 percent yearly in January. Monthly, wholesale prices slid at a slower pace of 0.4 percent, following a 0.8 percent fall in December.
