Vast Majority Of Hispanic Voters Have Unfavorable View Of Trump

In a potentially troubling sign for Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump, the results of a new Washington Post-Univision poll found that the vast majority of Hispanic voters have an unfavorable view of the real estate tycoon.

The poll found that 80 percent of Hispanic voters have an unfavorable opinion of Trump, including 72 percent that have a very unfavorable opinion. Just 16 percent view the billionaire favorably.

Trump's atrocious favorability rating among Hispanic voters comes as 74 percent describe his views on immigration as offensive.

Early in the presidential campaign, Trump drew considerable criticism for his inflammatory rhetoric about immigrants, including referring to most Mexican immigrants as rapists and drug dealers.

While entrance polls showed Trump performed well among Hispanics in Tuesday's Nevada caucuses, just 8 percent of the voters taking part in the GOP caucuses said they were Latinos.

Hispanics have far more favorable views of the other leading Republican candidates, Sens. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., and Ted Cruz, R-Tex., who are both of Cuban descent.

Forty-five percent of Hispanic voters have a favorable opinion of Rubio, while 37 percent have an unfavorable opinion of him.

Cruz' favorability rating among Hispanics is slightly underwater at 39 percent favorable to 44 percent unfavorable, although he still does far better than Trump.

Nonetheless, the poll results suggest the increasingly key voting bloc is likely to favor the Democratic candidate regardless of the eventual Republican nominee.

Fifty-one percent of Hispanic voters said they would definitely support the Democratic candidate, while just 14 percent said they would definitely support the Republican candidate.

The Washington Post-Univision survey of 1,200 Hispanic voters was conducted February 11th through 18th and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
