Eurozone Jan Construction Output Rebounds Strongly

Eurozone construction output increased at the fastest pace in nearly four years in January, after falling in the previous month, figures from Eurstat showed Wednesday.

Construction output climbed a seasonally adjusted 3.6 percent month-over-month in January, in contrast to a 0.7 percent fall in the previous month, which was revised from a 0.6 percent drop reported earlier.

The latest rate of rise was the sharpest since March 2012, when output had grown 8.5 percent.

On an annual basis, construction output expanded 6.0 percent at the start of the year, much faster than the 0.4 percent spike in December, corrected from a 0.4 percent fall initially estimated.

Among member states, the highest monthly increases in production in construction were recorded in France, Germany and Spain, while the largest decreases were seen in Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.
