Eurozone Retail Sales Growth Slows Slightly In February

Eurozone retail sales grew at a slightly slower pace in February as non-food trade dropped for the first time in three months, Eurostat reported Tuesday.

Retail sales climbed 0.2 percent month-on-month in February following a revised 0.3 percent rise in January. Economists had forecast sales to remain flat after January's initially estimated 0.4 percent expansion.

Food sales growth accelerated to 0.5 percent from 0.4 percent. Meanwhile, non-food product sales fell 0.2 percent reversing January's 0.5 percent increase.

On a yearly basis, sales advanced 2.4 percent, faster than the 2 percent growth registered in January. Economists had forecast growth to ease marginally to 1.9 percent.
