The construction sector in Australia continued to contract in March and at an accelerated pace, the latest survey from the Australian Industry Group revealed on Thursday with a Performance of Construction Index score of 45.2.
That's down from 46.1 in February, and it moves further beneath the boom-or-bust line of 50 that separates expansion from contraction.
The March reading is also the fourth straight to contract, and it touches a 13-month low.
Individually, new orders and employment continued to decline at a steeper rate.
House building and apartment building also were down sharply.
