Turkey's unemployment rate increased less-than-expected in January to the highest level in almost one year, figures from the Turkish Statistical Institute showed Friday.
The unadjusted jobless rate climbed to 11.1 percent in January from 10.8 percent in the preceding month. Economists had expected the jobless rate to rise to 11.2 percent.
In the corresponding month last year, the unemployment rate was 11.3 percent.
The latest jobless rate was the highest since February 2015, when it marked 11.2 percent.
The number of unemployed people grew to 3.29 million in January from 3.20 million in December. A year ago, the jobless figure totaled 3.26 million.
The youth unemployment rate which applies to the 15 to 24 age group, dropped to 19.2 percent in January from 20.0 percent in the respective month of 2015.
The seasonally adjusted jobless rate came in at 10.1 percent in January, down from 10.3 percent a month earlier.
