Salsa Great Ismael Quintana Dies

Ismael Quintana, one of the greatest interpreters of the Caribbean style of salsa music, has died at the age of 78.

Born in Ponce in Puerto Rico, Qintana moved to the US in his early childhood.

Quintana semi-retired from the world of music because of health matters and lived with his family in Colorado, where he died on Saturday after respiratory failure.

The great salsa composer and singer was known for hits such as Puerto Rico, Adoracion, No se compara and Maestro rumbero.

In addition to solos, Quintana also performed with the Fania All-Stars and went on tour with them to Africa, Japan, France, Central and South America and the United States in the late 1960s. In 1976, he made an appearance in the movie "Salsa", with Celia Cruz and the Fania All-Stars. During the 1980s he recorded "Vamos, Háblame Ahora" (Come on, Talk to Me Now) with Papo Lucca.
