Study: Half Of Shoppers Hate Dressing Rooms

Body Labs, a New York tech startup that provides true-to-life 3D body models, has found out that nearly half of shoppers hate trying on clothes, but most of them still go to dressing rooms.

"Poor fit is one of the biggest drivers of returns for online and in-store shoppers," said Bill O'Farrell, co-founder and CEO of Body Labs.

The company released the results of its 2016 Apparel & Footwear Retail Survey Report, which explores current apparel and footwear retail experiences as well as consumer purchasing behaviors related to fit.

"From our consumer survey, it's clear that shoppers are not satisfied with their experience when trying on clothes, and often times, realize later that clothes don't fit and are forced to make returns," Farrell Said

Body Labs advises clothing retailers to provide clothes that perfectly fit its customers as it could curb returns cost, restocking fees and logistical related expenses. According to the study, about 64 percent of apparel shoppers and 57 percent of footwear shoppers return products citing 'poor fit.'

The study also found out that most of the shoppers only buy clothes online from brands and retailers they have bought earlier and are satisfied with its fit. Around 22 to 25 percent of all online and in-store purchases are returned.

Meanwhile, 34 percent of shoppers are unsatisfied with traditional clothing sizes. About 85 percent of clothing shoppers and 72 percent of footwear shoppers said they would buy more if they could ensure a proper fit.

Body Labs, founded in 2013 and headquartered in Manhattan, collects, digitizes and organizes all of the data and information related to human body shape, pose and motion. Its mission is to transform the human body into a digital platform upon and around which goods and services can be designed, produced, bought and sold.
