Greece HICP Falls As Expected In May

Greece's EU measure of inflation decreased as expected in May, figures from the Hellenic Statistical Authority showed Thursday.

The harmonized index of consumer prices, or HICP, dropped 0.2 percent year-over-year in May, in line with expectations, following a 0.4 percent fall in April. It was the third month of decline in a row.

Housing costs dipped 4.7 percent annually in May and transport costs slid by 1.6 percent. At the same time, prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages grew 0.9 percent.

On a monthly basis, the HICP showed no variations in May, after rising 0.7 percent in the prior month.

The consumer price index fell at a slower pace of 0.9 percent yearly in May, following a 1.3 percent drop a month earlier. Prices have been falling since March 2013.

Month-on-month, consumer prices declined 0.4 percent in May, reversing a 0.7 percent climb in April.
