Singapore NODX Climbs Unexpectedly In May

Singapore's non-oil domestic exports increased sharply in May, defying economists' expectations for a further decline, data from the International Enterprise Singapore showed Friday.

NODX grew 11.6 percent year-over-year in May, reversing a 7.9 percent decline in the previous month. It was expected to fall by 1.6 percent.

Exports of electronic products contracted 6.0 percent annually in May, slower than the 7.4 percent fall in April. The decrease in electronic domestic exports was largely due to ICs and parts of PCs .

At the same time, shipments of non-electronic products surged 19.0 percent in May, in contrast to a 8.1 percent drop a month earlier.

On a monthly basis, NODX expanded a seasonally adjusted 16.8 percent in May, after a 4.5 percent growth in the preceding month.
