Greece Jobless Rate Drops In June

Greece's unemployment rate decreased in June after falling in the previous month, figures from the Hellenic Statistical Authority showed Thursday.

The seasonally adjusted jobless rate dropped to 23.4 percent in June from 23.6 percent in May, which was revised up from a stable rate of 23.5 percent reported earlier.

In the corresponding month last year, the unemployment rate was 24.9 percent.

The number of unemployed people totaled 1.12 million in June, decreased by 6,722 from May and by 73,477 from June 2015.

At the same time, the number of employed people grew by 14,961 compared with May and by 61,612 as compared to same month last year. There were 3.67 million employed people in June.

The youth unemployment rate, which applies to 15 to 24 age group, came in at 47.7 percent in June, down from 48.2 percent a year earlier.
