Hong Kong's unemployment rate held steady in August, in line with expectations, figures from the Census and Statistics Department showed Monday.
The seasonally adjusted jobless rate came in at 3.4 percent in the three months to August, the same rate as in the May to July period. The figure also matched consensus estimate.
The underemployment rate also remained unchanged at 1.4 percent in the two periods.
On an unadjusted basis, the number of unemployed people totaled 141,200 in the June to August period, up from 138,800 in the May to July period.
Total employment grew by around 5,400 over the period to 3.8 million in the three months ended August.
"While the labour market has stayed resilient so far this year, the near-term employment outlook remains clouded by the lingering external uncertainties and their potential impact on local consumption and business sentiment," the Secretary for Labor and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, said.
"We will stay vigilant and monitor developments closely."
