New Zealand Service Sector Growth Eases In September

New Zealand's service sector expanded at the weakest pace in nearly two years in September, survey figures from Business NZ showed Monday.

The performance of services index, or PSI, dropped to 54.1 in September from 57.9 in August. However, any reading above 50 indicates expansion in the sector.

The latest reading was the lowest since November 2014, when it marked 54.0.

In September, New Zealand's services sector experienced a softening in growth across all main indicators.

"A number of those who provided negative comments tended to focus on current weather conditions, as well as school holidays affecting operations. This culminated in the proportion of negative comments rising from 34.8 percent in August to 39.3 percent in September," Business NZ chief executive Kirk Hope, said.
