UK Aug House Price Inflation Accelerates Unexpectedly

British house price inflation quickened unexpectedly in August, after easing in the previous month, figures from the Office for National Statistics showed Tuesday.

The house price index rose 8.4 percent year-over-year in August, faster than the 8.0 percent climb in July.

Meanwhile, economists had expected the inflation to ease to 7.8 percent. The measure has been rising since end of 2013.

The average UK house price was GBP 219,000 IN August, this was GBP 17,000 higher than in the same month of 2015.

Annual house price inflation in England alone was 9.2 percent in August. House prices grew 2.7 percent in Wales as compared to last year.

On a regional basis, London remained the highest average house price at GBP 489,000, followed by the South East and the East of England.

On a monthly basis, house prices climbed 1.3 percent in August.
