Malaysia's consumer price inflation held steady in September, defying economists' expectations for an increase, figures from the Department of Statistics showed Friday.
Consumer prices rose 1.5 percent year-over-year in September, the same rate of increase as in the previous month. Meanwhile, economists had forecast the inflation to accelerate to 1.8 percent.
Prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages grew 3.0 percent annually in September and utility costs went up by 2.1 percent. At the same time, transport costs declined 5.5 percent.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices dropped 0.3 percent from August, when it increased by 0.4 percent.
