South Korea Manufacturing Sector Remains In Contraction

The manufacturing sector in South Korea continued to contract in October, albeit at a slightly slower pace, the latest survey from Nikkei showed on Tuesday with a manufacturing PMI score of 48.0.

That's up from the 14-month low score of 47.6 in September, although it remains beneath the boom-or-bust line of 50 that separates expansion from contraction.

Individually, manufacturing output was down for the third straight month, while new orders declined at their sharpest pace since June 2015.

In addition, employment levels fell at their quickest rate since January.
