The euro area current account surplus decreased in September, the European Central Bank said Friday.
The current account surplus fell to EUR 25.3 billion in September from EUR 29.1 billion in August, which was the highest surplus in three months.
The surplus on trade in goods dropped slightly to EUR 30.3 billion in September from EUR 30.7 billion in the preceding month. At the same time, the surplus on services grew to EUR 4.8 billion from EUR 4.7 billion.
Primary income showed a surplus of EUR 4.2 billion in September, down from EUR 6.4 billion a month ago. Meanwhile, the secondary income deficit widened to EUR 14.0 billion from EUR 12.7 billion.
Data showed that the 12-month cumulated current account for the period ending in September 2016 recorded a surplus of EUR 337.5 billion or 3.2 percent of euro area GDP, compared with one of EUR 322.5 billion for the twelve months to September 2015.
