Hong Kong's unemployment rate held steady in the three months ended December, in line with expectations, preliminary figures from the Census and Statistics Department showed Thursday.
The seasonally adjusted jobless rate came in at 3.3 percent in the October to December period, the same rate as in the September to November period. The figure also matched consensus estimate.
The underemployment rate also remained unchanged at 1.4 percent in the two periods.
On an unadjusted basis, the number of unemployed people totaled 122,000 in October to December, down from 130,600 in September to November.
The agency revealed that the unemployment decreased mainly in the decoration, repair and maintenance for buildings sector.
Total employment increased by around 10,700 over the period to 3.8 million in the three months to December.
"While the labour market can be expected to remain generally tight in the near term, the potential repercussions of various external uncertainties on the local economy remain a cause for concern.We will stay vigilant and monitor developments closely," Mr Stephen Sui, the Acting Secretary for Labor and Welfare, said.
