Greece's EU measure of inflation accelerated in March to the highest level in just over five years, figures from the Hellenic Statistical Authority showed Monday.
The harmonized index of consumer prices, or HICP, climbed 1.7 percent year-over-year in March, faster than the 1.4 percent rise in February.
Moreover, this was the strongest inflation since February 2012, when prices had grown the same 1.7 percent.
Transport costs rose 6.1 percent annually in March and prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages went up by 1.5 percent.
On a monthly basis, the HICP increased 1.4 percent from February, when it dropped by 0.1 percent.
The consumer price index also grew at a faster pace of 1.7 percent yearly in March, following a 1.3 percent gain in the prior month. The latest rate of growth was the highest since August 2012.
Month-on-month, consumer prices climbed 1.8 percent in March, reversing a 0.3 percent decrease in February.
