Greece February Current A/c Gap Widens

Greece's current account gap for February widened from a year ago, mainly due to an increase in the merchandise trade deficit, the Bank of Greece said Thursday.

The current account deficit was EUR 936.9 million versus EUR 828.1 million in the same month last year.

The goods trade deficit winded to EUR 1.64 billion from EUR 1.45 billion a year ago. The increase was largely due to a rise in the deficit of the oil balance, owing to higher international oil prices.

The services trade surplus rose to EUR 324.6 million from EUR 166.4 million in the same month last year.

The surplus in the primary account fell to EUR 261.2 million from EUR 407.4 million in the same month last year.
