Malaysia's Economy To Continue Expanding In Months Ahead

Malaysia's economy is expected to continue expanding four to six months ahead, according to economic indicators data published by the Department of Statistics.

The leading Index, which monitors the economic performance in advance, rose 0.8 percent year-on-year in February, following a 0.5 percent rise in January, data showed Friday.

However, the index fell 0.9 percent on month. The main component that caused the decline were number of new companies registered and expected sales value in manufacturing sector.

The coincident index that measures the current economic activity, climbed at a faster pace of 2.3 percent annually, following a 1.6 percent rise in January.

The annual change of leading and coincident indicators showed an improvement in February as compared to the previous month. Concurrently, the level of the both diffusion indexes remained above 50 percent.

This indicates that the economy is expected to continue expanding four to six months ahead, the statistical office said.
