Adobe Unveils Adobe Media Player; Reveals Availability Of Flex Toolkit For Apex - Update

Early Monday, San Jose, California-based application software provider Adobe Systems Inc. (ADBE), unveiled the Adobe Media Player at the National Association of Broadcasters, or NAB, trade show. The company noted that the new media player expands its Internet video solutions, adding to an emerging ecosystem, which permits new ways to distribute and monetize media, while helping viewers discover and view high-quality content both online and offline. Further, the company said that Media Player is a key part of Adobe's emerging ecosystem for the creation and delivery of next generation Internet video.

According to the company, leveraging Adobe's Emmy Award winning Flash architecture, the Adobe Media Player delivers more engaging video experiences to viewers while offering content publishers new abilities to distribute, track and build businesses around their media assets.

Bruce Chizen, chief executive officer at Adobe, commented, Adobe Flash has revolutionized the distribution of video content across the Internet and Adobe Media Player builds on this leadership position.

The company added that delivered as a lightweight download, Adobe Media Player delivers innovation for both viewers and content owners. For viewers, Adobe Media Player enables higher quality Flash format playback, the ability to download and view videos offline, ways to discover interesting new shows, full screen playback, one-click viewer ratings, and a powerful Favorites feature that automatically downloads new episodes of favorite TV shows or video podcasts.

Adobe Media Player allows better ways to deliver, monetize, brand, track and protect video content, for content publishers.

In a separate press release, the company and salesforce.com (CRM) said the availability of the Adobe Flex Toolkit for Apex, immediately. The company said that the Flex toolkit is a set of programming tools that combines the capabilities of Flex and salesforce.com's Apex platform to enable a new generation of powerful and engaging Internet business applications. Using this, developers can create richer application experiences for their salesforce.com deployments and Apex applications. Further, developers can make their Flex-based applications available on the AppExchange directory, and deploy them on-demand and with no additional software required.

Adobe noted that the Flex Toolkit builds on that capability to allow innovative and rich user experiences - including drag and drop, rich media and desktop app look and feel - to be embedded within Salesforce and Apex applications. The Flex toolkit joins the comprehensive set of resources and programs salesforce.com offers to let companies of all sizes create, deploy and sell on-demand applications for any business requirement.

Separately, the company revealed the immediate availability of the highly-anticipated Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium and Standard editions and Adobe Creative Suite 3 Web Premium and Standard editions. The company said that this revolutionary release of brand-new, tightly integrated, design and development software unites the best of Adobe and former Macromedia product innovation to provide designers and developers worldwide with a broad spectrum of creative options.

The company indicated that the expanded Creative Suite 3 family also includes Adobe Creative Suite 3 Production Premium. Both of these Creative Suite editions are expected to ship in the third quarter of 2007.

In addition, Adobe announced free public previews of Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, Adobe After Effects CS3 Professional and Adobe Soundbooth CS3 software, components of the recently announced Adobe Creative Suite 3 Production Premium.

Further, the company revealed that the BBC, through its technology partner Siemens, has selected Adobe Creative Suite 3 Production Premium as its preferred solution for PC-based non-linear editing and post-production. Production Premium CS3 is Adobe's complete integrated post-production solution for video, audio, graphics and Web publishing that will be used to edit and deliver content across the Corporation's broadcast channels and Web sites.

In another press release, the company announced the Adobe Flash Media Solution Provider program. The company noted that the new program is a consortium of professional streaming solution providers and publishers that offer consulting and implementation services for the Adobe Flash Media Server.

ADBE closed Friday's regular trading session at $41.64, down $0.76 or 1.79%, on a volume of 7.81 million shares.
