Vietnam's Factory Growth Moderates In April

Vietnam's manufacturing activity grew at a slightly slower pace in April, survey data from IHS Markit showed Wednesday.

The headline Nikkei Purchasing Managers' Index fell to 54.1 in April from 54.6 in March. Nonetheless, a score above 50 indicates expansion.

Business conditions have now improved in each of the past 17 months, the survey showed.

Strong growth of new orders continued to support rises in output. In particular, a survey-record increase in new business from abroad was reported.

Employment increased for the thirteenth successive month as firms responded to new order growth.

Higher demand for inputs encouraged suppliers to increase their prices during April. However, the rate of cost inflation eased to the weakest since last October. Output prices also rose at the slowest pace in six months as charges were increased only moderately.
