Indonesia Q1 GDP Growth Improves Slightly

Indonesia's economic growth improved marginally in the three months ended March, the Central Statistical Agency reported Friday.

Gross domestic product advanced 5.01 percent year-over-year in the first quarter, just above the 4.94 percent climb in the fourth quarter. Economists had expected the growth to accelerate to 5.1 percent.

In the corresponding period of 2016, the rate of expansion was 4.92 percent.

In terms of production, the highest growth was achieved by the information & communication and business field, the agency said.

On the expenditure side, exports of goods and services registered a spike of 8.04 percent.

On a quarterly basis, the economy contracted a non-seasonally adjusted 0.34 percent in the March quarter.
