Malaysia's industrial production growth eased unexpectedly in March, though marginally, figures from the Department of Statistics showed Wednesday.
Industrial production rose 4.6 percent year-over-year in March, just below the 4.7 percent climb in February. Meanwhile, economists had expected the growth to improve to 4.8 percent.
Among sectors, manufacturing production grew 5.9 percent annually in March and mining output increased by 2.0 percent. In contrast, electricity production registered a slight decline of 0.2 percent.
Separately, the statistical office revealed that the manufacturing sales value grew 13.6 percent yearly in March, after a 15.7 percent spike in the prior month.
Total employees engaged in the manufacturing sector rose 2.1 percent and salaries and wages climbed by 7.8 percent.
