Malaysia's consumer price inflation eased at a faster-than-expected pace in April, figures from the Department of Statistics showed Wednesday.
The consumer price index climbed 4.4 percent year-over-year in April, slower than the 5.1 percent rise in March, which was the strongest inflation since November 2008.
Economists had expected a 4.5 percent increase for the month.
Transport costs alone surged 16.7 percent annually in April and prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages grew by 5.1 percent.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices dropped 0.3 percent from March, when it edged down by 0.1 percent.
