Anita Baker Receives BET's Lifetime Achievement Award

Anita Baker was honored at the BET Awards over the weekend with the Lifetime Achievement Award. The event took place on Sunday at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

Baker was honored by jost Jamie Foxx, Ledisi, Yolanda Adams and Marsha Ambrosius. Foxx opened the tribute, performing a medley of some of Baker's hits. Adams performed a rendition of Baker's "You Bring Me Joy," Ledisi belted out "Sweet Love" and Ambrosius performed "Caught Up in the Rapture."

"I would ask that the music be allowed to play, that singers are allowed to sing, and rappers are allowed to rap, and poets are allowed to rhyme," Baker said during her acceptance speech.

The BET Awards also honored six people with the Humanitarian Award, including Waffle House hero James Shaw Jr., March for Our Lives' speaker Naomi Wadler, National Student Walk-Out Day participant Justin Blackmon, journalist Shaun King, Parkland hero Anthony Borges and Mamoudou Gassama, the man who saved a 4-year-old by climbing a set of balconies in Paris.
