Sprint Partners NXM Labs To Launch Blockchain-based Connected Car Platform

Mobile services company Sprint has partnered blockchain startup NXM Labs to launch a 5G-Ready Connected Car Platform with a blockchain powered Internet-of-Things (IoT) security system that guards against hackers.

The company said the platform comes with high-speed, on-demand passenger Wi-Fi connectivity with advanced vehicle health monitoring and safety. The Wi-Fi, powered by the Sprint LTE network, is 5G-ready, and will be launched in the first half of 2019.

The platform will be available starting this fall at leading automotive dealers nationwide.

Four of the world's major automobile manufacturers, BMW, Ford, General Motors and Renault, have joined startups and Technology Companies to form the biggest-ever consortium focused on applying blockchain technology in the automotive sector.

The formation of the new alliance, named the Mobility Open Blockchain Initiative (MOBI), was announced at the Future Blockchain Summit in Dubai in early May.

Meanwhile, German car manufacturer Volkswagen's Connected Car system will utilize IOTA Foundation's Tangle protocol for enabling on-the-go software updates to ensure against tampering with software being delivered to customer vehicles.
