Japan's LINE Corp. is set to launch its own cryptocurrency exchange BITBOX on its popular mobile messaging app in July 2018. The exchange will be available for cryptocurrency trading globally, except in Japan and the U.S.
LINE had announced plans in late January to launch a cryptocurrency exchange.
The exchange services will be provided through Singapore-based LINE Tech Plus PTE. LTD., which is a company under both LINE Corp. and LVC Corp, a LINE group company operating its cryptocurrency and blockchain businesses.
The exchange will allow trading in 30 or more cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Bitcoincash (BCH), Litecoin (LTC), and will not accept exchange between fiat money and cryptocurrencies.
The trading app will support 15 languages including English and Korean, but not Japanese and Thai.
The LINE messaging service already has a virtual currency or coin that is used in games and to buy content, mainly attractive and expressive stickers.
In early April, LINE had also launched a blockchain subsidiary called "Unblock" in South Korea that will be a research vehicle for blockchain technology.
