Adult content website OnlyFans, which has more than 130 million users for its adult-themed subscription fan pages, announced on Thursday that it will stop all sexual explicit content on its website from October 1.
The British company said that it was making the changes, "to comply with the requests of our banking partners and payout providers."
In a statement, the company said, "Effective October 1, 2021, OnlyFans will prohibit the posting of any content containing sexually explicit conduct. In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of the platform, and to continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines."
The company said that content creators could continue to post content having nudity, but that material should be "consistent with our Acceptable Use Policy." At present, the site allows nudity, except content containing public nudity.
The company said, "We will be sharing more details in the coming days, and we will actively support and guide our creators through this change in content guidelines. OnlyFans remains committed to the highest levels of safety and content moderation of any social platform. All creators are verified prior to being able to upload any content to OnlyFans, and all uploaded content is checked by automated systems and human moderators."
Founded in 2016, OnlyFans has till now paid more than $5 billion to content creators active on its website. According to its terms, the company keeps 20 percent of revenue generated by its more than 2 million creators. Because it has adult content, OnlyFans is available only on the web, not on mobile app platforms.
In July 2021, OnlyFans approved 114,065 creator accounts, out of 279,222 applications, as per an internal transparency report.
