The United States and the European Union have announced that they will impose fresh sanctions on Russia over what are termed "sham" referendums in four occupied Ukrainian regions.
Russian authorities say referendums conducted in Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson show overwhelming support among voters to join Russia.
