After ending the previous session little changed, the major U.S. stock indexes fluctuated over the course of the trading day on Tuesday before eventually closing mixed.
The major averages all came under pressure going into the close, although the Dow managed to end the day up 98.27 points or 0.3 percent at 33,684.79.
