Los Angeles, California-based World Variety Produce, Inc. is recalling Melissa's Kimchi Hot because of mislabeling of allergen ingredient, according to the U.S Food and Drug Administration or FDA.
The affected products may contain fish allergen, which was not listed on the ingredient panel.
The recalled 14 oz products were isolated to 420 cases from Lot # 48528201, 420 cases from Lot # 48858701, 150 cases from 49003901 and 130 cases from 49003901, with product of USA written on all the products.
The recall extends only to Sun International stores in Florida, Brookshire Brothers stores in Texas, OK Produce - Grocery Outlet in California. The called-back products were sold from bulk displays between the dates of December 15 through December 21.
The recall was initiated after it was found by Melissa's Design/Artwork department that the printed artwork was mislabeled and did not have an allergen listing of "Fish".
Food allergic reactions vary in severity from mild symptoms involving hives and lip swelling to severe, life-threatening symptoms, often called anaphylaxis, that may involve fatal respiratory problems and shock.
So far, the company has not received any reports of illnesses or adverse reactions relating to the product.
World Variety Produce has ceased the distribution of the affected product as both the FDA and the company continue their investigation regarding the cause of the mislabeling.
The agency is urging customers to return the called-back product to the place of purchase for a full refund.
In similar recalls, Edgewood, Iowa-based Valley View Candies, earlier this month, recalled All Fudge products as they may contain undeclared eggs, a known allergen.
Edwardsville, Illinois-based Prairie Farms Dairy, Inc. recalled specific batches of private-label Holiday Nog for the same reason.
