TomTom (TMOAF.PK), a location technology specialist, on Monday announced that it is collaborating with Japanese electronic equipment manufacturer Mitsubishi Electric Corp. (MIELF.PK) by providing them its High Definition or HD Map.
This map will power Mitsubishi Electric's High-Definition Locator hardware, and is expected to provide highly accurate data required for automated driving.
Mitsubishi Electric's High-Definition Locator is a GPS-based vehicle positioning system that utilizes quasi-zenith satellites.
TomTom leverages a multi-sourcing strategy for its HD Map and that includes data from GPS probes, front facing cameras, and vehicle sensors, to allow for automated driving systems to anticipate the road ahead, according to the company.
This map is already in use by many vehicles on the road for Levels 1 to 2-Plus autonomous driving, where it provides highly detailed representation of the road allowing self-driving vehicles to pinpoint the location of all road elements, as per TomTom.
Friday, TomTom shares closed at EUR 6.03, down 0.74% in Amsterdam and Mitsubishi Electric shares closed at $14.31, up 0.87%.
