Acute pancreatitis, or AP, refers to acute inflammation of the pancreas that presents as severe upper abdominal pain, often accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Hypertriglyceridemia, gallstones, certain medications and alcohol use are some of the common causes of acute pancreatitis. There are no approved therapeutics for AP.

The company we are profiling today is CalciMedica Inc. (CALC), which is developing a drug for acute pancreatitis by the name Auxora, formerly known as CM4620-IE.
